In our Introduction to Creative Writing class, students had an assignment that involved choosing, editing, and submitting a piece of writing to a teen literary magazine. Teen Ink chose Rachel W.’s poem “Joe”. Rachel’s poem will be published in their online magazine RAW. Way to go, Rachel! Natasia G. On April 15, Natasia presented germination research on the Canadian River Spiny Aster, which is an extremely rare flower. There are only four known occurrences in the state of Colorado and it is ranked critically imperiled. At the regional Tribeta Biology Honor Society conference in Socorro, NM, Natasia placed second in the Ecology/Biology area with her research showing that the Canadian River Spiny Aster is rare, because of its low germination rates due to lack of embryo development in the seeds. The lack of embryo development may be caused by not having the correct soil pH and nutrients, which could be caused by fire suppression, which provides nutrients to the soil and lowers the soil pH. for Read the full news article.
Jess H. Jess H, a student/athlete in 9th grade at BSO, competed in the 2006 Missouri-Valley Midwest All Star swim meet in Lawrence, KS on January 14th and 15th. He was one of the few swimmers from Colorado invited by the Midwest association to participate because of his exceptional qualifying times in his swimming events. While there he was able to achieve state qualifying times in the breaststroke, freestyle, and butterfly. Congrats Jess! Keep up the good work. |
