Educational Overview

Since its inception during the 2001-2002 school year, BSO's visionary staff has spent a great deal of time creating and reviewing courses, selecting both print and digital educational resources, and refining modes of instruction to offer state-of-the art educational opportunities to participating families. The BSO model is an amalgam of correspondence distance education, computer-assisted instruction, one-on-one and small group tutoring, consultative services, and mentorship. We strive to do what is best for each child, and we design our curriculum to maximize student success and affirm student responsibility.

As a result, regardless of their motive for coming to BSO, we afford most students and their families the opportunity to collaborate towards the realization of a truly differentiated instructional experience, often a rarity across the otherwise traditional educational landscape of Colorado.

Elementary Education

BSO provides a full spectrum of elementary age programming. Our research indicates that parents of elementary students often seek “increased involvement in their child’s education.”  Thus, our elementary programming often includes partnerships with elementary parents. Moreover, we are continually building a wealth of educational programs/products from which teachers and families can select the ideal resources for each student. Students can use multiple programs, at varied paces and at different levels.

Secondary Education

Our goal at Branson is to ensure student success through proper curriculum placement. Branson’s secondary program offers a complete spectrum of academic coursework which includes:

  • A full range of mathematics, including pre-algebra, algebra 1 and 2, trigonometry, and geometry.
  • Language arts courses that cover a wide range of skills, from basic grammar concepts to in-depth literary analysis.
  • Science courses including life science, earth science, physical science, biology, chemistry, and physics.
  • Social studies core classes including world geography, American and world history, and government, plus a variety of social studies electives.
  • Electives including a keyboarding, meteorology, creative writing, study skills, business courses, parenting, and a variety of technology courses.
  • Technology courses include Web site design, networking, Internet technologies, Cisco technologies, and wireless certification programs.

We strive to do what is best for each child and we design our curriculum based on Colorado Performance Standards to maximize both student achievement and student responsibility.

Curriculum

BSO’s goal is to work with families through technological innovation to provide the best possible educational services and curriculum available. BSO staff members believe that every child in Colorado deserves the highest quality educational opportunities, regardless of his or her zip code. To this end, BSO has invested tremendous resources towards developing the finest distance learning school in the state, where service, advocacy, and educational excellence are priorities every day.

We believe that online learning can truly demonstrate the power of standards. Standards refocus efforts from seat time towards achievement in relation to stated objectives. BSO delivers a variety of curricular materials, each of which addresses Colorado’s Content Standards, and individualized learning plans ensure academic achievement for all students.
